This was a fun program, with an accompanying craft. See the bottom of my post for the crafts--a toilet paper tube butterfly and foam heart finger puppets.
I made the felt cloud with the hearts raining down (below) to use with the props available to tell The Day It Rained Hearts. Before, we just had hearts that we would put on the felt board itself. I like this much better! It was also super easy to make--pencil a cloud shape on white felt and cut it out. Cut some yarn for the rain (the library actually had white/silver yarn!) and glue it to the back of the cloud with tacky glue (I'm sure there are other methods for attaching the yarn to the cloud). I cut out hearts from red felt and glued them to the pieces of yarn. I also glued another heart to the back in case the yarn got turned around and revealed the unfinished bits.

Crafts:
Heart Finger Puppets
You'll Need:
-Foam hearts with sticker backings
-Pipe cleaners cut in thirds for little fingers
-Sharpies or other permanent markers
Instructions for Kids/Families:
1. Draw a happy face on two foam hearts.
2. Peel off the backing from the hearts
3. Put the piece of pipe cleaner between the two hearts and press them together like a sandwich.
4. Wrap the pipe cleaner around your finger to play!
Heart Butterflies
You'll Need:
-Construction paper to cut hearts (I actually used a die-cut). You'll have to tape/glue the ends of two hearts to make the wings.
-Toiler paper tubes (I pre-wrapped mine in construction paper and attached with tape).
-Pipe cleaners cut in thirds. Then fold in half to create the antennae.
-Markers to make a smiley face.
-Foam hearts or other things the kids can glue to the heart wings. i also had coloring crayons for kids to color the wings if they wanted.
-Tape
Instructions for Kids/Families:
1. Draw a happy face on the toilet paper roll tube.
2. Tape the antennae to the inside of the toilet paper tube so that they appear above the smiley face.
3. Decorate the wings (two hearts).
4. Tape the ends of two hearts together.
5. Attach the wings to the back of the toilet paper tube (behind the smiley face part).
