Peace Day Spanish and Bilingual StoryTime: September 13th and September 15th, 2012

For these Spanish and Bilingual StoryTime programs, I collaborated with a coworker in the reference department who was hosting a workshop about peace given by Dr. Iris Haapanen of California State University Stanislaus. During the workshop, which also promoted International Peace Day, which is celebrated on September 21st, adults and children were able to make multicultural bracelets while learning about peer pressure, lack of self-confidence, and bullying. Since Dr. Haapanen's program was family-friendly and started immediately after Saturday's Bilingual StoryTime program, it was fitting that the story time revolve around the same theme.

Here is the press release for Dr. Haapanen's event: http://www.stanislauslibrary.org/pdf/press/multicultural_bracelets_sept12.pdf

*Because the public library separates church from state, the page with references to God were clipped back. For story time purposes, I paperclip back pages with religious elements, pages that may strange illustrations (particularly if I'm asking the children to identify what the pictures are in a story), and pages that aren't essential to the narrative in order to cut down on length.
